K.A.R.M.A. - Kajukenbo Advanced Respectful Martial Arts

K.A.R.M.A. - KAJUKENBO ADVANCED RESPECTFUL MARTIAL ARTS

My name is Jared "Super Saiyan" Iha. I was born in 1980, in Honolulu, Hawaii on Oahu. Martial arts has changed my life for the better. It also helped me get through alot of rough times growing up and I feel everyone could benefit from learning martial arts. I've learned for Free so this is me "Paying it Forward"  and I hope to make a positive difference in someone else's life.

In 1985, I started my training at 5 years old at IKF under Sensei Kotaka and was taken out 1 to 2 years later. I was taken out by my mom because I got into fights at school. I never took any martial arts again until I was in high school at Kailua High.

In 1997, I joined the Judo club my junior and senior year and was ranked 3rd in the East Division my senior year. I didn't place in OIA due to entering with a broken toe. I lost to two competitors that I've beaten during the season. It was a good experience for me. After I graduated, I helped as Assistant Coach.

In 1997, I also began training Kajukenbo under Professor Joe Sylva.

In 1998-1999, I participated in 3 point sparring tournaments. I won 1st place Kumite Advanced Color belt and 2nd place Advanced Color belt in Professor Godin's Tournaments. I was a purple belt at the time. I also had my first kickboxing fight at Blaisdell for Rage in the Cage. I lost but that fueled my passion and desire to become a champion. Plus training with the ISKA champions Shawn Taylor (RIP) and Virgil Sanicolas, fueled it even more because I wanted to be a champ like them.

In 2003, I was working full time as a personal trainer at 24 Hour fitness and training 6-7 days a week and most days twice a day because I wanted to get my black belt and was also planning to fight in the ring/cage again. From over training and not listening to my body, I tore my ACL during practice which was bothering me for awhile when I was doing jump spinning hook kicks.

While I was out for 3 years due to physical therapy (my Dr. and physical therapist thought I would never get back in the ring again), my leg was that messed up. I couldn't even bend or straighten my leg at first. While doing physical therapy, all I could think about was getting back to training again. That's when I knew what my "Passion" was. All sports you can get just as injured or worst. It's all about listening to your body and not over training. Their is a difference from good pain (muscles hurt) and bad pain (sharp pains).

In 2008, I won the 139lbs "Man Up and Stand Up" Semi Pro Kickboxing Belt and 135lbs "X-1" MMA Amateur Belt. I was also promoted by Professor Joe Sylva to Black Belt and promoted to Shodan by Sensei Wilbert Holck of "Kodenkan of Hawaii". I finally became a Champion in Kickboxing & MMA and earned my Black Belt, which was one of my goals and dreams.

In 2009, I won 1st place Grappling at "Kempo Unlimited's" Tournament.

In 2010, I won the 135lbs "808 Battleground" 4 Man Tournament for the 135lbs MMA Amatuer Belt. I also started training with Sensei Teruya at Seibukan Hawaii - Shorin Ryu Karate.

In 2011, I was helping as a assistant instructor/instructor at HKKA till 2015, that's when I started my own school.

In 2014, I won the 139lbs "Man Up and Stand Up" Semi Pro Kickboxing Belt and 3rd place No Gi 129.9lbs at "Naga Hawaii" Expert Division.

In 2015, I won the 125lbs "Man Up and Stand Up" K1 Style Kickboxing Belt. I started my own Non Profit School called K.A.R.M.A. - Kajukenbo Advanced Respectful Martial Arts in my garage only to a select dozen. I was promoted by Soke/Grandmaster Bobby Maesaka to 3rd degree Black Belt.

In 2016, I helped as an assistant instructor at New Hope Leeward's Spring and Fall "Martial Arts" class. It's a 10 week program once a week, final week we coordinated a performance for family, friends and the church at ho'ike night.

In 2017, I won 2nd place in both No Gi 139.9lbs at "Naga Hawaii"(wasn't my weight but no competitors at 129.9lbs, so I went up a weight class) in Expert Adult and Master's Division.

In 2018, I was planning to make my return in the ring/cage again but my sharp pains have gotten bad again. It's also been on going for almost a year now. I'm taking this as a sign to focus on teaching and helping the younger generations learn discipline, respect, build self confidence and a strong mind, body and spirit!
